What is a "Remaindered Book"?

A remaindered book is a book whose remaining unsold copies are liquidated by the publisher at a greatly reduced price.  When a new release is published, these books are printed in bulk with the publisher estimating the projected demand.   Any excess inventory is then often sold as a remaindered book.  These books are sometimes marked as reminder by putting a small dot or line on the edge of the book.
