Details:

Leopold von Kittenkatt is the Meowstro of a famous orchestra of cats. But one day before a big concert, he realizes he has lost his baton! He turns to Rico, a cat who plays the Mexican guitar--but Rico hasn't seen it. The Meowstro makes his way to taiko drummer Yoshi from Japan, Irish cat Erin, who plays the harp, and Fritz on the German tuba. He questions all the cool cats, but no one has seen the baton. Leopold is at a loss until an idea suddenly strikes him...   Once the audience was seated,And the orcatstra was ready,He stepped up to the podiumComposed and calm and steady. As he readied his mewsicians Meowstro knew he would not fail.He led a purrfect concertBy conducting with . . .HIS TAIL! With lyrical, rhyming text,  The Cat's Baton Is Gone features an adorable cast of international cats playing musical instruments from around the world. This entertaining picture book is purr-fect for cat and music lovers alike! From School Library Journal K-Gr 2-"Leopold von Kittenkatt/Is a conductor oh so grand./He leads a special orcatstra,/With cats from every land." So begins the first of many cat puns. Leopold has lost his baton. He speaks with the various mewsicians, who each play an instrument from their country. Some are appropriate, others are rather random. The Australian didgeridoo and the Cuban conga drum are fine, but the cello did not originate in Russia, or the oboe in Poland. Back matter includes a picture glossary giving more information about each instrument. The text reads fairly smoothly. The cookie-cutter, old-school, Disney-esque illustrations are the weak point here. An additional purchase.-Grace Oliff, Ann Blanche Smith School, Hillsdale, NJα(c) Copyright 2011. About the Author:

Scott Hennesy has had a fun-filled career writing scripts for the Disney theme parks. He and his wife, Victoria, have two sons, Sean and Brian, both of whom are talented songwriters and musicians. Scott says that watching his sons perform provided him with lots of inspiration while writing about the gifted musical cats in this book. But, sadly, Scott will never be able to attend a Meowstro von Kittenkatt concert. He is allergic to cats! Joe Lanzisero likes to have fun, and has been fortunate enough to spend most of his adult life doing just that. He has designed and created all kinds of cool things for the Walt Disney Company, such as animation, theme park rides, and even cruise ships. But mostly, Joe enjoys being with his family and friends, drawing silly pictures, riding his bike, playing his drums, and listening to the sound of a cat purring while it sits on his chest....
